One packet of a handwarmer, duct taped to the bottom of the feeder, will last up to 8 hours (which is all the daylight we happen to have in December) and keep the liquid solution from freezing.

If you bring the feeder in overnite, then tape the handwarmer to it at daybreak, it lasts all day. (these hardwarmers are also useful for cold country owling excyrsuibs and opening day of Mariners baseball, FYI).

An easier method, just discovered by moi, involves the TOEwarmers, as they have a peel-off backing, then the adhesive simply sticks to the bottom of the hummer feeder.

I have trained all my neighbors in this endeavor to keep our hummers alive!
