Hi all.
For the first time I have a downy woodpecker at my feeder eating suet. I've never even seen a woodpecker in the yard except when the Northern Flickers come around in the spring hamering on the chimney pipes.

I have a plant that I wrap Christmas lights around the base the keep the plant from getting too cold, you may be able to wrap some lights around the feeder (try red lights). The lights may put out enough warmth to keep the food from freezing. You can also try wrapping the feeder up in bubble wrap.
Stay warm
