Tweeters,

When I scanned the feeding birds out front just now, I found the first
WHITE-THROATED SPARROW I've seen here at Avian Acres. It's an immature bird
that was feeding on the ground with a bunch of other sparrows and finches.
Seven of the eight sparrow species were out front, with one additional
species (LINCOLN'S SPARROW) feeding with other sparrows behind the house:

SPOTTED TOWHEE

FOX SPARROW

SONG SPARROW

LINCOLN'S SPARROW

WHITE-THROATED SPARROW

WHITE-CROWNED SPARROW

GOLDEN-CROWNED SPARROW

DARK-EYED JUNCO

This likely is the most complete list of wintering Emberizids that we'll
have here on the property, but I can always hope for a Snow Bunting or a
Lapland Longspur to make an appearance.

Added notes:

A female RING-NECKED PHEASANT showed up here last Tuesday, and was seen
twice since - it's the first pheasant in two years.

A flock of about 150 BREWER'S BLACKBIRDS was on the outskirts of Roy on
Saturday.

Temp was exceptionally low this morning - 13.2degF - and the number of birds
at the feeders and on the ground was higher than usual.

97 species seen on site in 2008; 105 species seen on site to date.

May all your birds be identified,

Denis DeSilvis
