YAY!!! My female Varied Thrush made her grand entrance 1st thing this morning, and about an hour later, the Golden Crowned Sparrow showed up at one of the platform feeders full of millet. Hopefully more are on their way. I have had a large number of Juncos, including my Slate Colored, the numbers have been easily over 100 for this species. Only a couple of starlings, which has been nice. Two evenings ago a beautiful Male Red Breasted Sapsucker showed up at the suet feeder, my son visiting from out of town was the first to spot him. A note about the humming bird feeders. I have the Hummzinger (not sure how it is spelled anymore) brand, 3 of them. They are on hooks just a few inches from the house, and never freeze, (stay out all night) and I make the 2 parts water 1 part sugar solution. I do however keep a light on one of them, and it seems to get hit more often than the others. It is hanging directly under the back 'porch' light outside. The Hummers hit it REALLY early, probably because of the light. Not sure of the hour, since my husband doesn't look at the clock, but it is much earlier than dawn. I have 3 male Annas and several females. At one time we counted 6 Annas total. That was in October. I think we are down to 5 now, not sure. We also have a heater in the birdbath, so everyone is happy.Vicki Biltz
