Hello, Tweeters,

I've received nearly all field reports for the Sequim-Dungeness CBC,
which we held on Monday, 12/15/08. The weather was cold and windy on
all our coastal routes, and just plain cold everywhere else. Despite
bitterly cold northerly winds gusting 20-30 mph most of the day, we
had lots of chilly birders venturing forth to find birds, including
two heroic offshore boat parties, the valiant Dungeness Spit party,
and a stalwart Sequim Bay kayak party. Skies cleared up during the
day with temperatures ranging between 19 and 30 degrees, and snow on
the ground everywhere. Nearly all roads were clear of snow, thanks
to the Clallam Co. road department and temperatures slightly above
freezing on the day before the count.

Our species total was 138, the first time our species count has
dropped below 140 since 1997 and significantly less than our all-time
record of 150 set last year. Birds of interest included four Yellow-
billed Loons, one Cattle Egret at Jamestown, one Rough-legged Hawk
and one Sora at Graysmarsh, one dowitcher sp. at Diamond Point, one
Yellow-headed Blackbird with other blackbirds at the Olympic Game
Farm, several White-throated Sparrows, one Swamp Sparrow, and 13
Eurasian Collared-Doves. Notable misses on count day were American
Bittern, Band-tailed Pigeon, N. Pygmy Owl, Short-eared Owl, Gray Jay,
Townsend's Warbler (seen during count week), and Evening Grosbeak.

When we've finished entering all the data I'll report back with more
details. Be careful out there!
