The last couple of days have been interesting here in Lacey, not to far from
Nisqually. Besides the usual Juncos, Towhees and Golden-Crowned Sparrows
I've had several visits from 5 California Quail that like to forage under the
feeders. I've scattered some seed for them so they aren't so clustered.
Yesterday you could cover them with a shoe box.

Also in evidence are Song Sparrows, Fox Sparrows, Downey Woodpecker, both
Chickadees, and a Red-breasted Nuthatch. I also have Steller's Jays, House
Finch and House Sparrows, as well as Starlings.

There are at least 2 Anna's Hummingbirds, a male and a female, coming to my
feeder. I have 2 and swap them out when one starts to freeze up.

I'm a bit disappointed that I haven't seen a Varied Thrush yet, but there is
still hope.

Enjoy our blanket of white which makes watching the birds easier. Now I
hope this clears up some by Wednesday so I can walk Nisqually NWR....
