Here in Cinebar, the snow is a foot deep and the temperatures hover
around the freezing mark. Wednesday morning, the Hazel tree's branches
were so heavy with snow that the bird feeders were sitting on the
ground!! Even while I was shaking the snow off the branches, the song
sparrows and chickadees were visiting the feeders! And there are more
birds around than ever, particularly since I warmed the bath water
today! All the usual birds--juncos, towhee, black capped and chestnut
backed chickadees, nuthatch, the three song sparrows that live here now,
and Jays. The female flicker is back too and has monopolized the large
feeder (and only one with a roof) to the evident disgust of the Jays.
Also, there are several fox sparrows. I had not seen them for a month
or so and thought they had left the area. I guess they just did not
need to visit the feeders until the snow covered up all the other food
sources!!
