When I was outside a few hours ago, I noticed a bird flying over
heading south, at least 100 meters above the treetops, and realized
it was a small woodpecker, not a flicker. That seems very unusual to
me, and I wouldn't be surprised if it was one of the many sapsuckers
that have moved down from the mountains as their tree sap froze.
