Hello Tweeters,
This is an old message I wrote on to Tweeters on December the 11th 1999
While sitting this morning since 7.50 AM watching my Anna's Humming bird
feeding and perching all day (I even put a second feeder out)I see only one
Hummingbird at a time feeding. While I was sitting watching the Patio all
kinds of birds start feeding on the ground as Dark-eyed Juncos and Bewick's
Wren trying to pick up the fallen seeds from the Birdfeeders.I used to have
a Live tree sitting on the Patio and around Christmas I decorated this
little tree. All the sudden I missed this Tree and remember having our first
3 Townsend's Warblers in this tree and the Bewick's Wren's coming all the
time. This birds came every day since I put unsalted crushed peanut's on the
soil .
I got up ,went to the Nursery and bought a 12 inches Noble Fir with a
container and some potting soil and Patrick and I planted this Little Noble
Fir that evening. It stays on a cart with wheels for moving it around. The
Bewick's Wren was the first bird who came and Chestnut and Black-capped
followed. The next day I decorated this little Tree with bright Red ribbon
who is close to the Hummingbird feeder.I am going to enjoy my patio in the
winter what will attract so many birds so close.I can imagine if it snows
how all the birds trying to come to the Patio and can hide in this tree in
case an intruder supposed to interrupt there feeding. This Little
Christmastree is a gift to myself and also good for the birds.I was
intending to buying a Teddy Bear what was on my mind for weeks ,but it
changed this morning when I saw all this birds walking around this empty
patio. We had our first male Purple Finch for this year also.
I wishes all birders and Tweeters a " MERRY and a Birdy Christmas" and all
the many new birds for the coming New Year"
Happy Birding Ruth Sullivan
