Subject: [Tweeters] SNOW GEESE in Federal Way

The three SNOW GEESE previously reported on 12/21 at Lake
Lorene/Treasure Island Park in Twin Lakes /Federal Way seemed to have
survived the meager food supply during snow in good condition. They
spent most of yesterday at Treasure Island Park, feeding on the lawn
with the resident CANADA GEESE flock, also known as the "mine-laying
squad". This morning they were on Lake Jeane, close to the tennis
court at the club house. They subsequently moved up on some body's
back lawn, feeding with CANADA'S and AMERICAN WIGEON.

Both lakes have a number of (mainly) male COMMON MERGANSERS and
several pair of HOODED MERGANSERS. The female CANVASBACK continues to
be seen on one lake or the other. Numbers of AMERICAN WIGEON are way
down from previous levels. They either were forced to move further
south or may be hanging out in saltwater, such as Dumas Bay. There
also was a flock of about 20 AMERICAN GOLDFINCHES feeding in the
alders at Lake Lorene this morning.

Good Birding!
