Greetings Tweeters,
I made a quick stop in at Nisqually today, the office only not spending any time on the refuge. However, on the way in I noticed funny patches of snow in the fields just to the south (opposite) side of I-5. Stopping to take a quick look I found that they were Snow Geese. I did a quick count and came up with 250 to 300 birds with possibly more deeper among the standing corn stalks. While this may not be a large number for the Skagit, Snow Geese are not common on the Nisqually Refuge and I have not seen a flock this size on the refuge. While there were some around in late fall (less than 20), they were absent during the Christmas Count. Apparently they showed up on the refuge in the last few days. Since, I had not seen any mention of them I thought I would post up.
Good birding and happy new year.
