Once upon a time in the Antarctic, believe it or not, we passed some
of our spare time playing softball, on Ross Island. The Skuas were
our most loyal fans, they turned out in the worst weather, they
played constant backup, never missing a chance to pursue foul balls
and errant throws. Sometimes they chased balls in play, and they
were much faster than any of us. Between games they were regulars
at the garbage dumpsters.
