My husband is having kittens because we've got a squirrel in our garage who
somehow has access to the space above our laundry room. UGH! (Hubby's an
electrician, and very worried because squirrels and wires are NOT a good
combination, we've already had to replace wiring for our sprinkler system
because of squirrels a couple of years back.) As a result, I have been
asked (with an emphatic tone) to move my bird feeders from the porch.

When the wild bird store opens at noon, I'm off to purchase a pole/some type
of apparatus to move the feeder into a big treed area in my front lawn.
This relocation will place the feeder approximately 18'-20' from the
original location (and also probably make it much easier to keep my porch
clean...). What concerns me, is the possibility of my little buddies not
finding the feeder. Am I being overly concerned? The feeder's current
location is hanging from the eaves of my front porch. Approximately three
feet away, there's a weeping pussywillow, and it is teeming with sparrows
and Towhees as a result of the food source. I also have flickers and house
finches that dine at this feeder. Is there anything I need to keep in mind
when relocating the feeder?

I have a woodpecker feeder on the porch as well. It's a log18" long, about
4" in diameter, with six holes roughly 2" in diameter drilled through all
the way, and those holes are filled with suet. It took about six months for
the woodpeckers to find this feeder, and I'm afraid they might take a long
time to discover it if I relo it as well. Should I just leave this as is
for the time being? The squirrel rarely, if ever, gets on that feeder.

Last but not least, my hubby wants to relocate the squirrel to prevent him
coming back to the garage. Can anyone tell me what to do here? We have a
live trap, and don't want to hurt the little guy (a douglas squirrel). How
do I do this legally? Where do I take him to make sure he's safe, and can
find something to eat? He's been doing the garage thing for about 3 weeks.
