I walked out of my place this AM only to hear the raucous calls of WESTERN
SCRUB-JAYS. Not all that unusual, as there's been a resident pair hanging
around for a few years now. What was unusual was the number of birds. Six
(6)! Maybe more! I counted six birds perched in adjacent trees, and
thought I heard at least one or two more during my count. Pretty cool.

Out in the water COMMON GOLDENEYES and SURF SCOTERS were performing
courtship displays. There were three pairs of HARLEQUIN DUCKS snoozing
amidst a loose group of American Wigeons. An immature (3d year?) BALD EAGLE
was perched in a tree at the end of Shore Drive. PELAGIC CORMORANTS are
starting to show their white patches. And, the usual suspects were abundant
so I won't bother to list 'em.

Good birding,
Mary
