Dave,

How do you bird the vicinity of the Centralia Steam Plant? When I attempted
to bird along Big Hanaford Road near the steam plant about 3 years ago, they
were extremely security-conscious (I suppose it is considered a potential
terrorist target), and I was basically told that I could not stop anywhere
along Big Hanaford Road within about 2 miles of the plant. I was
particularly hounded when I tried to stop briefly at the cattail pond that
you mentioned, which was covered with ducks. Have the security restrictions
eased at all since then? Or were they just giving me a particularly bad time
because of my Canadian licence plates? (Dagnab Canadian terrorists....!)

This afternoon, Sherry and I went back to Big Hanaford Rd. in Centralia to
see the Redheads. The 3 were still there and another male Canvasback was
found for a total of 4. Further down the road we found 2 Bald Eagles,
another Canvasback, and a bunch of Green-winged Teal. A single Greater
White-fronted Goose in a small flock of Canada and Cackler Geese was seen
near the end of the road.
