Hi Folks - Looks like the procedure for applying to the summer jobs register
in Alaska has changed a little. See info below. Good luck to all who
apply!

We currently have 12-15 seabird monitoring positions open online on Alaska
Maritime NWR. Please forward the below information on to anybody you think
might be interested and encourage them to apply. You must be a US citizen
to apply for the paid positions but we also have volunteer positions open
to anybody interested.

The following are particulars on how to find and apply for our open
Biological Technician positions. Closes 11 Feb 2008.

You can find the job vacancy listing for

GS-4 R7-08-171305-BK
GS-5 R7-08-171524 -BK
GS-6/7 R7-08-171749-BK

Go to http://www.usajobs.gov/ and simply search on the zip code for 99603
or search on the announcement numbers above. Either way, make sure you are
applying to our positions if you want consideration!

When you want to apply, here is some helpful information.

This year's application process is a bit different than from previous
years. There are job announcements for many positions with many refuges
and programs. There is no longer a consolidated "Summer seasonal register"
for all of Alaska. Apply to each job announcement for which you want
consideration.

The system for applying is a little different this year: you upload your
resume via USAjobs like last year but then when you want to apply to the
listing, you're switched to a new thing called Application Manager (which
you have to create a separate login account for) for answering the
questions. It's pretty straightforward though. When starting off in
USAjobs, you click to apply for the vacancy and it asks you to select your
resume to send - this automatically links your USAjobs resume to your
application in Application Manager. It then sends you to Application
Manager, where you have to login with a separate Application Manager
account (or create a new one for first-timers like me and probably many
others). After creating a login, the program starts right in on the
personal info and the questions for the vacancy application - that's pretty
straightforward. After answering all of the questions, there is a chance
to check to make sure that your resume has been linked from USAjobs, which
is probably an important thing to get right (and you can redo it if not).
Upon submitting your application, you get a confirmation screen to confirm
your submission for the "occupational questionnaire" as it's called. You
also receive the same confirmation info in an automated email to whatever
email address was provided when you created an account for the Application
Manager system. This is a big improvement from past years.

Mac users: I was able to apply with Foxfire (Safari worked fine with
USAjobs, but it wasn't compatible with Application Manager, the new system
being used for applications this year) - if you have a Mac and are having
problems, we suggest that you get this free download.

Good Luck!
