For those interested in my nature programs,

This Saturday, the 9th (6:30 pm) and the following Saturday, the 16th (5:00
pm) I will be leading Owl hikes for the Seattle Parks Department at Camp
Long (West Seattle). On Saturday the 16th (6:30 pm) I will also be leading
my Salamander Love Night program. See the descriptions and registration
instructions below. I am offering the programs below through the Seattle
Parks Department, but if anyone has any special requests for programs or
trips you'd like me to lead (not necessarilly through the parks department)
I may be able to entertain special requests for a diversity of places, times
and themes:

Owl Hoots in Seattle Parks at Camp Long 2/9/08, 2/16/08, 3/15/08
Join us for a dusk-to-dark owl prowl through Camp Long?s woodland. Early
winter is courtship time! Giving a hoot might get a holler or scream
response. Dress for the weather and bring a flashlight (though we may have
a few extra to borrow). There is a fair chance we will see or hear Barred
Owls.
Call Camp Long at (206) 684-7434 for
directions. Please register early to reserve a space - owl walks are
popular.
All ages welcome.
Fees: $8 for adults and $6 for children.
Program #24155 Sat February 9 6:30 - 8:30 p.m.
Program #24156 Sat February 16 5:00 - 6:30 p.m.
Program#24220 Sat March 15 7:00 - 9:00 p.m.

Salamander Love Night - Camp Long 2/16/08
Did you know that our two local mole salamander species (the Long-toed
Salamander - Ambystoma macrodactylum and the Northwestern Salamander -
Ambystoma gracile) mate and lay eggs right around Valentine?s Day? Come with
us to look for these long-toed lovers, their Northwestern friends, and the
eggs in their watery bedrooms. Dress for the weather and bring a flashlight
(though we may have a few flashlights to borrow). A short hike in the woods
may produce plethodon (lungless) salamanders -
Red-backed Salamander(Plethodon vehiculum) and Ensatina (Ensatina
eschscholtzii) Please register in advance.
Ages 6 and older
$8 per person
