Tweets,
Monday between squalls I managed 42 species in the "greater" Tenino area of
south Thurston Co. Best bird was W BLUEBIRD, apparently two pair, on
Waldrick Rd about a mile north of its terminus at Military Rd east of Tenino
and McIntosh Lk. There is a walking trail (old Chehalis rail line) that
parallels Waldrick (and beyond, southward) with numerous bluebird boxes. I
could not locate the larger flock (10-12 birds seen 2-3 weeks ago in the
vicinity). CROSSBILLS were again evident here. McIntosh Lake had a fun
variety of ducks and other waterfowl (11 spp). Encountered a TOWNSEND'S
WARBLER and HUTTON'S VIREO in a very active mixed flock on Old Military Rd
just east of Tenino. Otherwise the "forest species" were quiet and sparse.
Good birding!
