Hi Tweeters,

Today on my way to recycle I briefly saw the
Red-shouldered Hawk, with much better views later. A
lot of the time this bird is super wary. Last week I
was driving south on 64th in Kent and the hawk is
usually on the west at Kent Ponds. I saw it perched,
I checked my rear view, slowed down and leaned over
the steering wheel to get a better look and boom, off
it flew...

My first look today was similar. It was perched low
towards the south end of the ponds area, I pulled into
a parking lot across the street and got out with my
bins and it turned around on its branch and flew off.
But then after recycling I saw it on the ospey tower
and I was able to hide my car and self behind bare
shrubs at GraybaR and got great scope looks. I got
digiscoped photo's that aren't so great but it was fun
to have it sit long enough to get photo's.

Nearing dusk I walked through the fields on the other
side of the ponds and saw one Short-eared Owl fly,
then perch for quite some time on a snag, looking
around. The harriers gave quite a show of their own
in the south west corner, two males and two (I think)
females. They all seemed to get along just fine.
Western Meadowlarks were in this area, too.
