it's so quiet on the list today -- is everyone in
texas, looking at the white-crested elaenia? well, as
it is, i have gotten permission from erik breden to
feature one of his images of this bird on Birds in the
News along with a sound track recorded by martin reid

i also wanted to point out that i have been running a
series of bird images that dave rintoul has provided
so you can enjoy those. today's image is one of my
favorite duck species, the elegant canvasback;

but there are a few more than ran last week that oyu
should see also, because, alas, tomorrow's image is
the last one of dave's to appear for a little while
(although i have an animal image that pops up every
day on my blog at 3pm EST, so you can always expect
more);

one more thing, i wrote a story about flesh-eating
amphibians that oyu jmight enjoy, that includes an
embedded video (and a link to a BBCNews video, which
cannot be embedded, unfortunately);
