At 7.40am, there was a large accipiter over the farmland just south of the
intersection of Hwy 9 with Airport Way/Marsh Rd, south of Snohomish. At that
hour, with the poor light, all I had was silhouette, not colouration, but I
had it in view for about 15 seconds, and it flew across Hwy 9 only 30 feet
in front of my car, heading east.
If it was a Cooper's, it was the biggest I've seen by some considerable
margin, an easy size match for a red-tail. I kept my eyes peeled on the
return trip, but didn't spot it again. At that time, the fields had a large
flock of swans instead.
