In regards to the question about crossbill sightings, they have been evident
in recent weeks on Waldrick Rd (s. Thurston Co) at its southern terminus at
Military Rd and northward about 1 mile, in the vicinity of where the
roadway crosses the railroad/walking trail grade above the ranch house &
ponds (where Matthew Pike reported the Canvasbacks?). I've also encountered
them on Old Military Rd in the stand of mature fir, a short distance NE of
the Mull St. marsh on the E outskirts of Tenino.
