Today, Feb. 18, there were several Tree Swallows in our pasture and visiting some of their traditional nesting boxes on our fence line. This is in Thurston County, in the rural area along Scatter Creek east of Tenino.

I strongly suspect these are males that have nested here in previous years, as they focused immediately on the old boxes.

Nearby Virginia Rails have been very vocal around sunset, and Pacific Chorus-Frogs have been singing since Feb. 10.
