I must say, keeping a yard bird list has really enlightened me about some of
the habits of my "regular" birds I'd never really noticed. For instance,
both flickers (three days ago) and nuthatches (today!) have only recently
put in appearances. Just this morning when I went out for the paper in the
gloaming, I heard the "yank-yank" of the nuthatches and felt happy.

They were busily foraging in my big ol' pines much of the day (one pair at
least). Spring is icumen in, I guess.
