Unfortunately I was unable to find the bird, and you're right to question the id of a northern saw whet... they do sound quite similar to northern pygmy owls. I have had some experience helping with saw whet owl banding stations, and the call sounded remarkably similar to our playback cd's. Too bad its not as obvious as "who cooks for you". I'll try to head back to the park this week, and see if I can get a visual. Sorry for the repeat posting, I thought I should post it to the group too.
