Subject: [Tweeters] Not so early for Townsend's (Caryn/Wedgwood)

I had been seeing male townsend's on a regular basis (daily) to my suet feeder in Jan/Feb if not earlier...have not seen him lately, so perhaps he's moved "north" to Kenmore. He even took a sponge bath on my stone bench.

I've also been seeing a sharp-shinned (Cooper's?) in my yard. Also, Anna's plucking down from my Japanese anemones from last year's flowers - taking to another yard to nest ;-(.

I had a great weekend on Whidbey last Fri/Sat/Sun.- saw a flock in the distance (of w/out a scope I am not sure), mergansers (as two floated by) but they all dove at once (Useless Bay). Had not seen that behaviour. Is this a likely id or would another bird do this? I thought I could make out the head feathers.

Also, an osprey sat like a hood ornament on a house across the lagoon for a long while. Also spotted a small group of Brant geese. At the Clinton ferry saw several surf scoters.
