Good Morning - Happy New Year!

Saw a very cooperative Cooper's hawk at the fill (or whatever you prefer to call that place...) very low on the pond closet to the lake after the first main "pond"...then he flew to another perch on the far pond (are there designated names for these for ID purposes?) who sat for photos. There was also a wood duck pair on the inlet toward the U. Lovely sight for the New Year.

Then in my yard, a ruby crowned kinglet male sat still for quite a while with his "crown" exposed for quite a while. Have never seen one sit still for quite so long, but then I told my husband I think he's "sitting on the pot" and sure enough, once he's taken care of business, he came back for another hit of suet! Can anyone explain the top being exposed for so long? There were no apparent threats, but have never seen one do that. It was a pleasure to observe. "Wild America!"

Happy New Year!
