Subject: [Tweeters] 2007 First Bird, er 2008?

It was so quiet this morning, I usually hear a lot of birds before I
ever see one, but not this morning. Finally when I went out to get the
paper I heard and saw three gulls. Glaucous-winged or hybrids I'm sure
but I couldn't tell so I'll call it a Larus urbanus, a typical city
gull. My "Latin" is probably not even close :)So my first bird of 2008
is a probable GW Gull. Lots of the usual suspects later, the BC
Chickadees were very noisy and visible, and cute.

> This morning just as it was getting light, my wife was in the kitchen and saw a big bird fly to our big fir tree. A closer look saw it to be a PILEATED WOODPECKER. A great start for the new year. A Northern Flicker flew into the suet feeder shortly after. Then when it started getting lighter, the birds started showing up at all the feeders: we had a number of both species of Chickadees and Dark-eyed Juncos, a Red-breasted Nuthatch, Bewick's Wren, American Goldfinch, House Finch, Spotted Towhee, American Robin and a pair of Anna's Hummingbirds.
