Though we are not in the Puget Sound area, Varied Thrushes seem less common
here this year too. Winter thrush numbers seem to vary a lot here year to
year. Some years there are plenty of both Varied and Hermit Thrushes.
During other years one dominates; this year Hermit Thrush numbers are
higher.

We would usually have one or two Varied Thrushes in our backyard by
now, especially during the recent snowfalls. So far neither sight nor
sound of them.
