Hey Tweeties,

I am excited because the editors of the book, Open
Lab, contacted me last night to tell me that one of my
essays is included in their annual edition of the
book, Open Laboratory 2007: the Best Science Writing
in the Blogosphere. This book will be available before
the end of January and will be sold by Amazon and will
also be available through some bookstores. The funds
raised by the sale of this book support the annual
Science Bloggers' Conference (which I've never
attended, boohoo).

But the best thing about this book is that one of my
essays was chosen to be in this collection, and this
essay is about BIRDS (as was last year's essay, which
was about torpor in hummingbirds). So of course I have
to share this essay with you (again);

This essay discusses blue and white feather coloring
in birds and was used as the jumping off point for a
new lab at Cornell this past autumn, incidentally, so
I am hoping to hear from the lab coordinator as to how
that lab experience went for the students and the
instructors.

Okay, happy new year everyone. I hope I've helped you
enjoy birds and to understand science just a little
bit better this past year.
