Don't sell yourself short, Clarence. You gave an excellent description that had many of us guessing it was an immature RT. Good field observation skills is the mark of a good birder.

I visited the Fill on New Years Day and encountered the same bird. I took pictures, although they turned out poorly against the overcast skies. If anyone is interested, let me know and I will share them. Based on the photographs, it is clearly a Red-tailed Hawk.
