Hello Tweeties,

this week's Birds in the News, the first one of 2008,
got off to a late appearance due to internet access
problems, but it has finally arrived. This issue
features another image by listowner, Dave Rintoul, and
includes a story that you bird-loving bibliophiles
will appreciate; Irene Pepperberg will be publishing a
memoir of Alex this autumn. Also, by reading this
issue of BITN, you will learn the meaning for a new
word; snarge;

I am also running a series of images donated by Bob
Levy as the image of the day. These images are a
photoessay of a little family of red-winged blackbirds
living in Central Park, NYC. The photoessay began
yesterday and continues through the end of the week,
and each image pops up at 3pm EST.

Additionally, one of my (very very lucky) colleagues
from grad school. Lisa, is gainfully employed studying
the endangered spotted owl in Northern California
state. She writes a blog, Field Notes, about her
studies and experiences that you might enjoy reading;
