My wife, who held a feather to my head and forced me to become a birder, and I are celebrating our 6th anniversary this February 29, 2008. We've decided to stay local, this is somewhat relative.
Possibilities are: Forks, Whidbey Island, Somewhere on the north end of the Oregon coast, and obviously the rest of western Washington.

Any suggestions for late Feb. birding. We're leaning towards Whidbey because we can do a lot of day trips from there, but we've had wonderful experiences on the coast, if the weather goes bad, watch the storms come in. But my wife hasn't gotten much birding in recently because she's been teaching quilting in Africa! And doesn't, alas, get much opportunity to bird there.
So we need to get her back up to speed on the NW birds.

I'm putting up a new thistle feeder tonight. The old one finally literally feel to pieces all of a sudden. So far, it has been for us a pretty quite finch season. The chickadees and bushtits are fine. And lots of Anna's hummers.
