Hi Amy,

My first thought is Porcupine. You might look for areas the bark has been stripped.

Subject: [Tweeters] Strange animal noises question-need reply please

Tweeters,
I will try and turn this question into a bird related topic by saying that I encountered it while listening to Barred and Great Horned Owls in my yard. I heard a strange noise in the fir trees about 30-40 feet up. It was very quiet high pitched whining followed by some pig like snorting.... I have been seeing raccoons in the yard recently, however, I do not recall them snorting. I have heard them "cooing" and making high pitched noises. My mother was recently woken up in the middle of the night to an owl killing a similarly sounding creature. (Although the squeeling/snorting/screaming sounds she described were much louder and horrifying to listen to) The only other animal I see regularly are opossums although they are usually silent. Does anyone have a guess about what I am hearing. It's a little bit creepy and I cannot spot the little buggers. LOL. Thanks for any help.
