Dear Tweeters- I am on the SLT Book committee; as the note below announces,
we are putting together a photographic vision of Skagit County. We encourage
all who have taken beautiful photos, representative of our local heritage,
to submit their work.

*Skagit Land Trust invites you to submit your most stunning images of the
natural world, people, places, and wildlife in Skagit County, Wash., to be
considered for publication in the premier Skagit Land Trust coffee table
book to be published in the fall of 2008. We're looking for beautiful
photography that represents the diversity and unique character of Skagit
County. What makes Skagit magic? Show us your vision of the county's lands,
waters, seasons, plants, wildlife, people, conservation successes, and
communities in action. We invite you to help celebrate our connection to the
natural wealth of this region through photographs, from the Cascade
Mountains to the low-lying valleys, bays and islands. Send us your most
striking, thought provoking, and memorable views of humans, animals, and the
natural world in Skagit County.

*A project of Skagit Land Trust, the goal of the book is to encourage
appreciation for the natural environment, people, and places of Skagit
County as well as support for voluntary land conservation. Each entrant may
enter up to fifteen (15) digital images. Though your submissions are not
limited to the list below, we are looking for images with some of the
following themes:

*Communities influenced by nature
*Photos that highlight the interaction between humans and the natural world.
They can also show our connection with, or dependence or effect on the
natural world.

*Plants, animals, birds in the environment
*Images that depict a bird, animal, or plant subject or that demonstrate a
relationship between the subject and the place it lives or the environment
in which it is pictured.

*Landscapes, waterscapes, skyscapes, underwater world
*Photos that highlight the beauty, diversity and importance of these natural
places.

*Creative visions of nature
*Photos that reveal new ways of seeing natural subjects or scenes.

*Conservation, leaving a natural legacy
*Images that demonstrate ongoing work to protect the natural places, both
rural and urban, of Skagit county.

*Working locally
*Photos that showcase the county's diverse rural-, agrarian-, marine- and
natural resource-based communities.

*Seasons & weather
*Images that show how weather shapes our daily lives and is an intrinsic
part of the character and allure of the Pacific Northwest.

*Outdoor Recreation & Tourism
* Photos that show how people interact with Skagit County's natural world in
a low-impact manner, from hiking to bird-watching, festivals, fishing,
kayaking and more.

*Who:
*The Skagit Land Trust Book Project is open to all amateur and professional
photographers. You must be the sole author and owner of the copyright for
all images entered. By submitting your image(s) to the Skagit Land Trust
coffee table book project, you grant to Skagit Land Trust one-time rights to
reproduce the image(s) in a coffee-table style book and for a non-exclusive
license for any purpose in connection with the book project including, but
not limited to, the following:

- Inclusion within Skagit Land Trust's marketing and promotional
materials relating to the book project, including press packs, postcards,
brochures, potential promotional calendar, Web and print ads, and public
announcements
- Inclusion on the Skagit Land Trust Web site
- Display or exhibition of the selected book entries

Entrants retain ownership and all other rights to future use of their
photographs and will receive appropriate credit for each usage of the photo.
Should you wish to donate any of your images to Skagit Land Trust for its
continuing educational and conservation efforts, please indicate so on your
submission form below.

*How:
*Each entrant may submit up to a total of fifteen (15) photographs. Entries
may be digital files either e-mailed or uploaded to the Skagit Land Trust
photo website. For mail-in entries please fill out a submission form
downloadable at http://www.skagitlandtrust.org/bookproject.aspx.

*What:
*Individual submissions should include both a low-resolution version and a
high-resolution version of each image. Files must be labeled with
lastname_firstname_title_resolution with no spaces in filename. Also, please
no border, embedded marks or logos.

- Low resolution images should be no larger than 2.5 MB in JPEG format
at maximum quality, with the longest dimension no larger than 1024 pixels at
a resolution of 72 dpi, in RGB mode. Please indicate 'low_res' at the end of
the file name.
- High resolution images should be reproducible at 350 dpi at final
print size, with the maximum dimensions of 10.5 x 9 inches at 350 dpi.
Preferred file formats are: TIFF (non-compressed) or PSD in 16-bit, RGB
mode. JPEGs are also accepted but should be at the highest resolution
settings. Please indicate 'hi_res' in the file name.

Each CD or DVD submitted must bear the photographer's name and phone number.
Please use a Sharpie pen to label the disk: *no paper labels or tape*.

Accurate caption information must be available should your image be chosen
for publication. This would include information regarding plant or animal
species, where appropriate, and the location. Wildlife images should include
whether the animal is wild or captive.

ALL PHOTOGRAPHS must accurately reflect the subject matter as it appeared in
the viewfinder. Nothing should be added to an image and nothing should be
taken away. Digital adjustments are only acceptable if limited to minor
cleaning work, levels, curves, color, saturation and contrast work. The
faithful representation of a natural form, behavior or phenomenon must be
maintained. Sharpening is allowed. Cropping is allowed. Compositing and
multiple exposures are not allowed. Exception: historical photographs may be
submitted as digital prints or contact Skagit Land Trust for alternative
arrangements.

*WHEN:
*Deadline for submitting entries is *February 4, 2008*. Online entries can
be uploaded beginning December 6, 2007, and must be uploaded no later than
11:59 pm Pacific Daylight Savings Time on February 4, 2008. Mailed or
shipped entries must be postmarked no later than February 4, 2008. Receipt
of packages will be acknowledged via e-mail or by post if entrants include a
self-addressed, stamped postcard. Entrants will be notified of the status of
their submissions as early as May 2008, however, photos may remain under
consideration through September 2008. Following the final jury selection,
all images not chosen for publication will be discarded by Skagit Land Trust
unless entrants have indicated that they would like to donate their images.
