Hello, tweets.

in the last two days I have seen three huge flocks of Pine Siskins
(at least 70-100+ birds in each one) in my neighborhood, two of them
several blocks apart and a half-mile from here. Right now one of
those two flocks (different size, so surely different flocks) or
another is swarming over a western red cedar tree in the next yard.
They swirl around the tree like snowflakes in a storm, and they are
clearly eating the cedar seeds, obviously an acceptable substitute
for red alder. Unlike the robins, this flock stayed for only about 5
minutes, then off they went. I couldn't hear them from in the house,
but I can imagine their buzzing and chattering. This is something I
haven't seen for several years in this neighborhood.
