Tweeters,
Yesterday I spent about 2 hours birding Edison and the Samish Flats area,
mainly trying to find the HARRIS'S SPARROW at the Samish R. Crossing W of
Edison, which would be a first for me in Skagit County. No luck on the
Harris's, although I did find a flock of 10 GOLDEN-CROWNED SPARROWS not
far away.
However, I did see a few birds of interest:
EURASIAN COLLARED-DOVE-- a flock of 7 in Edison, plus 2 more near the
Samish R. crossing, which flew off toward Edison. The darned things are
multiplying!
MERLIN-- one perched atop a Douglas-fir in Edison.
SHORT-EARED OWL-- At least 4 hunting over the fields near the Samish West
90.
GREAT HORNED OWL-- Pair heard hooting just before sunset on Samish Island.
And by the way, I beg to differ from those who described the paint on the
guard rail at the Samish R. Crossing ("West Edison") as pink-- it may be
faded, but to me, that's clearly ORANGE!
