Walked the Magnusen park for the firet time.On the lake rafts of coots, common goldeneye,
some mallards, gadwall.buffleheads, greater scaup, pied billed grebe.Walking through the park came accross the Bohemian hunters although I never saw one had great looks at 2 cedar winged waxwings.Away out of range to make positive ID's were more waxwings and some red coloured birds,I'm a relative novice so I'll assume it could have been a house finch.Red winged black birds couild be seen at the southend.
Drove to the Botanical gardens near the montlake fill.Saw 2 bald eagles,4 northern shovelers, flock of widgeon,1 pintail.robins.2 blue winged teal, double crested cormorants,3 great blue herons and in the middle pond I observed on lt's own a duck that looked remarkably like a masked duck.I looked through 3 books and the closest match came from my Sibleys.darkish brown crown, light tan sides with no noticeable secondaries. The head seemed downey to look at.Through the eyes ran a dark line.It sat fairly low in the water. It never upended or dived.Like I said I'm still somewhat of a novice and am well aware that a masked duck would be well out of it's range and is proably some kind of juvinile of another species. If someone with considerable more experience could check it out and let me know I'd be greatfull. All in all a great day.
