Yes, my survey involves a "for-profit" website. I
intend to offer a service for birders that does not
exist today. For competitive confidentiality reasons,
I didn't not include questions regarding the advanced
features of the site.

I attempted ask permission from the "person managing
the list" but they did not respond. I did not see any
instructions prohibiting the subject of my note.

--- Marc --- I contacted you prior to seeing your
subsequent messages on this listserve. I contacted
you directly from work because I thought that was a
more personal, open approach. It was not an attempt to
hide. Also, I wanted to use the email you included in
my survey but you misspelled the word "survey" and I
didn't know if it was an error or an actual email.

I'm a person with a business idea who is looking for
help to get started. It's that simple. I wish I had
the money to pay you, but I just don't. This project
is in its infancy. Perhaps I could mow your lawn? Or
shovel snow off your driveway?

I figured if people didn't want to help, they'd just
ignore my inquiry. BUT, thank you for taking the hour
that you did. Again, your responses were helpful. BTW,
have you given any thought to the car question. :-)

Do know...I just saw your note this evening, as my
company blocks access to personal email. This was the
first opportunity I had to respond via email. I've
had over 20 people complete the survey and the
responses are overwhelmingly positive.

Also, I just noticed I could have provided my personal
information and avoided some of this. Next time.

from actual birders. I will only use your info to
confirm the authenticity of your input.

Yes, I would like to see the guidelines if you have
them. Like I mentioned to Marc, I emailed the list
manager to ask permission and they never responded.


--- Elaine --- I'm sorry the survey request seemed
disingenuous. That is obviously the last thing I
wanted or expected. Especially in light of
authenticity being a core value of this "company."
Again, I'm sorry my message was inappropriate.

To all on the list...my humblest apology for the
intrusion.

Lastly, in the future, lets not let the impersonal
distance created by listserves get in the way of
human-to-human contact when needed. I had no intention
to tip the cart. Below, I've provided my personal
contact information if you would like to ask me more
questions or offer more reprimands. I'm sure the list
would prefer to hear birding reports rather than
criticisms of my misstep.
