I mentioned in an earlier post that three of us witnessed a quite lengthy, serious and looping chase scene in which a Herring Gull went after a Common Goldeneye. It hardly seems like a fair match, looking at the relative sizes of the birds...! We did not see what motivated the attack in the first place. The Goldeneye tried various in-flight maneuvers to shake the gull, but the gull stuck to its target pretty closely throughout the chase.
