Tweets,
Bob Sundstrom and I squeezed in about an hour of birding before Monday's
storm hit. Following up on a report of W BLUEBIRDS back in December, we
found 10-12 working the uncultivated open edge bordering an expansive
pasture on Military Rd 1/2 to 1/4 mile west of Waldrick (site of bluebird
boxes). Sunday they were working the field immediately SW of this
intersection. A sizable flock of YELLOW-RUMPED WARBLERS accompanied them.
RED CROSSBILLS were sounding off in the area, with 8 or so on power lines at
the intersection. Bob said they seemed to be the large-bill variety. We
spotted a EURASIAN WIGEON on a ranch house pond about 3/4 mi north on
Waldrick. Nearby at the east end of McIntosh Lk were two loudly chirping,
active adult BALD EAGLES, apparently at a nesting site. At the Mull St marsh
just east of Tenino I observed the YELLOW-HEADED BLACKBIRD (young male) Bob
had previously reported at his feeders amidst a large flock of red-wings.
This is a personal Tenino area first in some 19 years here. Good birding!
