??????? This morning Pipper and?I made several stops in some of?our favorite birding places here?in south Kitsap Co.? While searching Kitsap Lake for a Canvasback (sometimes present?here in KC during the winter), I happen to?scope a flock of about 80 PIne Siskins up close?in a group of alders,?and almost immediately located an adult Common Redpoll. I was very lucky to have?nearly a minute?to study the bird before the entire flock exploded off across the rd.? It's reddish/pink breast with?a streaked flank?and tiny bill showed very well and it was nice to compare it?next to the many Pine Siskins.? The bird was found in the developed?county park at the extreme westerly end of the park.? This is my first for Kitsap county or for the westside for that matter.
??????? Other spots, including?Chico Creek estuary had a nice selection of gulls, and all our usual selection of wintering birds.? No Canvasback duck today however, but I will gladly take the Common Redpoll in exchange.
