Tweeters,

I'm not sure just what to make of this gull. To reply to some of the
earlier posts: A Kelp Gull, which has yellow legs as an adult, shouldn't
have legs this fully pink at any age. The bill structure doesn't fit the
massive bill of Greater Black-backed, and clearly it's not a Lesser
Black-backed (wrong leg color, structure).

In profile, the "facial expression" of bill size and shape and head shape
look more like a Slaty-backed Gull; and the dark smudge around the eye seems
okay for Slaty-backed, as does the bill coloration. I'm not sure what to
make of the lack of any white in the trailing edge of the flight feathers.
Could be by its 3rd winter this bird is a little out of phase from a
"typical" 3rd winter. Or is it a 2nd winter going into summer?
