Although vehicular access to the section of the Yakima delta that is behind the Ben-Franklin Transit headquarters (east of Hwy 240 and north of Columbia Park Trail - was once called Columbia Dr. at this location) has been cut off, it is still possible to access this area with just a little walking. Park in the far west end of the Transit system's public parking lot. Here two chain link fences form a narrow corridor that leads - after about 150 ft. - to the top of the newly lowered Corps of Engineers dike with a freshly paved bike/hike trail. Now granted, you can no longer drive along the inside of the dike from this point east to the Bateman Island causeway, so birding this area is now going to be less convenient and more time consuming, but it can still be done.
