I made a quick loop around south central Thurston
County this morning. At the very end of Skookumchuck
road I located an AMERICAN DIPPER feeding at the mouth
of Bloody Run. I later heard a second bird closer to
the reservoir spillway. As I headed back east and
north an American Kestrel made a brief appearance
along Coal Street. Along Mima Acres Drive on the east
side of Rock Prairie I found a WHITE-THROATED SPARROW
among a flock of about two dozen Golden-crowned
Sparrows. The flock also contained at least one first
year White-crowned Sparrow and a few House Sparrows.
The flock was hanging out in a huge blackberry bush on
the west side of the road about a quarter of a mile
south of Old Hwy 99. An adult Cooper's Hawk perched at
the very top of a fir along Military Road just east of
138th as I headed home.
