We set out at 11 a.m. walking east from Avondale Rd. The most abundant birds we saw were Pine Siskins and Varied Thrushes. I was surprised at the number of Varied Thrushes. I've never seen so many in one place before. There was a flock of about 20 on one shady lawn that we passed, numerous individuals spotted along the trail, and then as we approached the end of the trail, about 20 more on the path and 10 or so in the trees around.

We kept up a good pace, so we probably missed a lot of birds. Here's an attempt to catalog the ones that put themselves right out in plain view or within clear earshot:

Pine Siskins: numerous flocks
Varied Thrushes: 50-60
Spotted Towhees
Golden-crowned Kinglets
Red-tailed Hawks (3)
Bald Eagle
Downy Woodpeckers (2)
Hairy Woodpecker (1)
Red-breasted Sapsucker (2)
Brown Creeper
Bewick's Wrens
Dark-Eyed Juncos
House Finches
Red-breasted Nuthatches (heard, not seen)
Red-winged Blackbird (heard, not seen)
Song Sparrows
American Robins
Black-capped Chickadees
Steller's Jays
Winter Wren

And of course American Crows and European Starlings.
