This afternoon we had a redpoll at our house near downtown Olympia.
It was an adult female and was with a flock of goldfinches. i got
very good up close looks at it as it fed at our thistle feeder and
basked in the sun in our apple tree. Unfortunately i only had a few
minutes to observe it before I had to leave for an appointment.
Presumably it was a common redpoll but unfortunately I did not know
what field marks to look for to distinguish between the two redpoll
species at the time. If only I had reviewed Khan's helpful photos
before this siting. The godlfinches and the redpoll were gone when I
returned home at 4 pm. If the redpoll should reappear I'll post again.
