Being in Portland to visit a friend anyway, we tried to find the
oft-reported arctic loon today, but struck out, as did the other birders we
saw. [We didn't find the one at Pt. No Point last year either. Dang...]

In a pretty constant medium rain, we saw some other nice birds including:

trumpeter swan
greater white fronted goose
horned, pied-billed and western grebes
pacific loon
bald eagle
red tailed hawk
cooper's hawk
great egret
gold crowned kinglet
varied thrush
hooded merganser
and assorted other ducks, sparrows, etc.
