Hi Tweets,

Today nine stalwart birders joined Barbara and me as we braved temps in the 30's and increasing wind for a Seattle Audubon field trip in West Seattle. We covered from Don Armeni Park west to Duwamish Head, then checked the Alki waterfront and Constellation Park south of Alki Point. The cold drove us into the Alki Bakery after 2 1/2 hours to warm up. Afterward we spent about a short hour at Herring House Park on the Duwamish River. We finished with 40 species:

Pacific Loon -- 4 at Constellation Park
Red-necked Grebe
Horned Grebe
Western Grebe -- about 18 birds on the lee side of Alki Point
Double-crested Cormorant
Brandt's Cormorant -- 2 on the channel marker north of Duwamish Head
Pelagic Cormorant
Great Blue Heron
Brant -- 18 south of Alki Point
Canada Goose
Gadwall
Green-winged Teal
Mallard
Harlequin Duck
Black Scoter -- 3 at Constellation Park
Surf Scoter
White-winged Scoter -- 2 females off Alki Beach
Common Goldeneye
Barrow's Goldeneye
Bufflehead
Red-breasted Merganser
Bald Eagle
Killdeer
Black Turnstone -- 30 in flight and on the rocks near Duwamish Head
Surfbird -- 12 with the Black Turnstones
Sanderling -- 90 at Constellation Park
Dunlin -- 8 on the mudflats by Kellog Island
Mew Gull
Ring-billed Gull
Glaucous-winged Gull
Pigeon Guillemot
Rhinoceros Auklet
Rock Pigeon
Northern Flicker
American robin
Steller's Jay
American Crow
European Starling
Song Sparrow
Golden-crowned Sparrow

Good birding!
