Saturday, January 26th, sponsored in part by Wild Birds Unlimited, with
stores in Vancouver and North Vancouver. This message was updated at 9:00

Out-of-town Rare Bird Alert for an ARCTIC LOON near Brownsmead, OR,
just east of Astoria. This bird has been present and easily located from
December 9 through at least January 24. For updates, check recent messages
from the OBOL E-mail group, available at

Sightings for Saturday, January 26th:

In Surrey, the HARRIS'S SPARROW was again present at 188th Street & 8th
Avenue.

At Lighthouse Marine Park in Point Roberts, WA, 25 MARBLED MURRELETS
flew south.

In Delta, an adult GLAUCOUS GULL was seen between 64th and 72nd Streets
along the Boundary Bay dyke. Also, a first-winter GLAUCOUS GULL was present
between 80th and 88th St. Nearby, a NORTHERN SHRIKE was sighted.


Sightings for Friday, January 25th:

At Fisherman's Cove in West Vancouver, 4 ANCIENT MURRELETS were seen.

At the Westham Island Bridge in Delta, the CLARK'S GREBE continues. Nearby
at the Reifel Bird Sanctuary, 1 BARRED OWL and 2 GREAT-HORNED OWLS continue.

At Brunswick Point in Delta, 1 BARN OWL and 1 AMERICAN BITTERN were located.

At the Boundary Bay airport in Delta, a WESTERN MEADOWLARK was sighted.

Four MARBLED GODWITS and 8 EURASIAN WIGEON were seen at Blackie Spit
In Surrey.


No reports for Thursday, January 24th.


Sightings for Wednesday, January 23rd:

At Jericho Park in Vancouver, the immature NORTHERN GOSHAWK was present at 3
PM in willows east of the bridge.

At Farm Slough near Blackie Spit in Surrey, a LONG-BILLED CURLEW, a MARBLED
GODWIT, and 3 WESTERN MEADOWLARKS were seen. Nearby at Elgin Heritage Park,
130 LONG-BILLED DOWITCHERS were sighted.


Sightings for Tuesday, January 22nd:

In Delta, an adult GYRFALCON was perched on a telephone pole just east of
112th Street along Highway 10.

At the Tsawwassen ferry jetty in Delta, the SNOW BUNTING was again present
on the south side and the WILLET continues at the base of the jetty.

In South Surrey, 2 CACKLING GEESE were seen at 160th St and 46th Ave.

In Ladner, 1 WESTERN MEADOWLARK was seen along 34th St.


Sightings for Monday, January 21st:

At Jericho Park, the immature NORTHERN GOSHAWK was sighted.

In Delta, a GYRFALCON was present near 112th St. Also, 5 AMERICAN TREE
SPARROWS were sighted along the Boundary Bay dyke east of the foot of
72nd St.

At 40th Ave in Surrey west of Hwy 99, 29 WESTERN MEADOWLARKS were seen.

Along Westham Island Road in Delta, 7 LEAST SANDPIPERS were located.


Sightings for Sunday, January 20th:

At the Westham Island Bridge in Delta, the CLARK'S GREBE was again present.
Nearby at the Reifel Bird Sanctuary were 4 COMMON REDPOLLS, 1 BARRED OWL, 1
NORTHERN SAW-WHET OWL, 2 GREAT HORNED OWLS, 1 YELLOW-HEADED BLACKBIRD, 2
SANDHILL CRANES, and 1 NORTHERN SHRIKE.

In Vancouver at Jericho Park, a NORTHERN GOSHAWK was seen. It has been
present for the past 3 days.

In Delta, a NORTHERN GOSHAWK was seen at 112th St. Nearby, 1 ROUGH-LEGGED
HAWK and 1 NORTHERN SHRIKE were sighted. At 72nd St, a second NORTHERN
SHRIKE and ROUGH-LEGGED HAWK were seen.

At Surrey Lake along 152nd Street in Surrey, a REDHEAD was located. Also in
Surrey, at 160th & 48th Ave, 5 TUNDRA SWANS, 7 GREATER WHITE-FRONTED GEESE
were located with a small group of CACKLING GEESE.

At Iona Island in Richmond, 2 MARBLED MURRELETS were seen from the tip of
the south jetty. Also at Iona were 2 WESTERN MEADOWLARKS.


Sightings for Saturday, January 19th:

At Point Roberts, WA, 7 ANCIENT MURRELETS flew south.

At the Tsawwassen ferry terminal, the WILLET continues at the base of the
jetty. Nearby, just off Hwy 17 on 64th St, 1 AMERICAN KESTREL and 1
ROUGH-LEGGED HAWK were sighted.

At Boundary Bay Regional Park in Delta, 5 SHORT-EARED OWLS were located.


Sightings for Friday, January 18th:

In Delta, 5 EURASIAN COLLARED-DOVES were perched in a Douglas-fir at
1650 96th Street, the first house south from Highway 99.

At John Hendry Park in Vancouver, 60-80 CALIFORNIA GULLS
were present.


Sightings for Thursday, January 17th:

At Westham Island Bridge in Delta, 5 MUTE SWANS were seen. Nearby, 30
LONG-BILLED DOWITCHERS were sighted. No sighting of the CLARK'S GREBE today.


Sightings for Wednesday, January 16th:

In Delta, a EURASIAN COLLARED-DOVE was present along Hwy 10 between 96th and
104th Streets.

At Blackie Spit in Surrey were 3 MARBLED GODWITS.


Sightings for Tuesday, January 15th:

At the Reifel Bird Sanctuary in Delta, 3 COMMON REDPOLLS were sighted.

In Surrey, the HARRIS'S SPARROW continues along 188th St near 8th Ave.

Also in Surrey, the intermediate GYRFALCON was present at 40th Ave.

In Delta, the gray-phase GYRFALCON was seen from the Ladner Trunk
Road (Highway 10) just west of 112th St.


No reports for Monday, January 14th.


Sightings for Sunday, January 13th:

At Point Roberts, WA, the YELLOW-BILLED LOON was located again.

At the Reifel Bird Sanctuary were 11 BOHEMIAN WAXWINGS. Nearby at Westham
Island Bridge, the CLARK'S GREBE continues.


Sightings for Saturday, January 12th:

At Lighthouse Marine Park in Point Roberts, WA, a YELLOW-BILLED
LOON was present this morning. Also 2 ANCIENT MURRELETS were seen.

In South Surrey, the HARRIS'S SPARROW continues at 188th St & 8th Ave.

In Delta, the CLARK'S GREBE continues to be seen in Canoe Pass
near the Westham Island Bridge. Also in Delta, an AMERICAN TREE
SPARROW was seen along 72nd St near the pumpkin field. Nearby, an
immature GLAUCOUS GULL was seen from Hornby Drive near 88th St.

At the White Rock pier in White Rock, 3 EARED GREBES were still present.

At the Tsawwassen ferry terminal, the SNOW BUNTING was again
present on the south side of the jetty. At the compensation lagoon, a
EURASIAN GREEN-WINGED TEAL was sighted. The WILLET was at the
base of the jetty.

In Delta along 68th Street, 2 immature GLAUCOUS GULLS were present.
